Listen to your Microbes – Library event in Cork – Ireland
LISTEN TO YOUR MICROBES is a beautifully illustrated book about the importance and benefits of microbes authored by Fergus Shanahan with graphic art by Laura Gowers. To celebrate World Microbiome Day, a copy of the book will be added to every library in Cork City and County, as well as the Boole Library at UCC. A limited number of copies will also be available for visitors to take home and keep. Fergus Shanahan is emeritus professor of medicine at University College Cork, founding director of APC Microbiome Ireland, and a pioneering gastroenterologist. Laura Gowers is graphic designer with a special talent for translating complex scientific information into accessible visual narratives. She’s passionate about using design to promote public health.
Listen to your Microbes is The book is published by Liberties Press and is supported by interviews with key scientists from APC Microbiome Ireland linked to the text by QR codes. This project is intended as a public health service and explores the use of imagery and humour to present complex concepts including the majesty of the gut microbiota and the role of personal human microbes in public health.
