I am passionate about microbiome because science is continuously teaching us its importance on our health and disease, and that we have the potential to modulate it for our own benefit.
My research is focused on the design of a biotherapy for treating vaginal candidiasis. These are infectious diseases that affect the life quality and health of 75% women all around the world. My strategy is to modify a bacterium in order to produce the Killer Peptide KP, a potent antimicrobial molecule with advantageous features, such as non-toxicity, immune modulation and broad inhibitory spectrum. I look forward to using this bacterium as a therapy for treating these diseases without altering the vaginal microbiota.
